Players with only one card in my collection - 11

Here is another post showing cards of five players with only one card in my collection. Like the last one in this series, these five players are represented on only four cards.

To review how these posts are set up, they are using images and sorting tools from The Trading Card Database. I'm going into the stats of my collection on the site, and looking through it to see who only has one card listed, and then finding five names that I haven't posted yet.

Here is who today's search found.

2000 Leaf Rookies & Stars #209 (#/1000)

Rashidi Barnes was drafted by the Browns in the seventh round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He played in 14 games for the Browns in the 2000 season, recording 14 tackles and making one punt return. He was released by the Browns in the final cuts before the 2001 season.

Along with his cards in this set, Rashidi Barnes cards can also be found in the 2000 Leaf Limited set.

2006 Leaf Rookies & Stars #141 (#/999)

Leon Williams played three seasons with the Browns after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He played in 46 games, starting 12 of them, and made five sacks and forced one fumble during those games.

After the Browns let him go, he had stops with the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs.

Leon Williams had cards in five sets from 2006, and then no other cards in his career.

2009 Topps - Flashback #FB9

I was really happy when I got this card. I had read that Jim Marshall had started his career with the Browns but never expected to see a card of him with the team.

Something that I didn't know was partially revealed on the back of the card. I didn't know that Jim Marshall left Ohio State before his senior season, and played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1959. He was drafted by the Browns in the fourth round of the 1960 NFL Draft.

After being traded by the Browns to the Minnesota Vikings, Jim Marshall ended up playing 19 seasons with the Vikings, finishing his career after the 1979 season at the age of 42. He was a member of the Vikings famous defensive line, the Purple People Eaters.

Of course, no matter how great his amazing career was, I don't think his career gets brought up often without mentioning one particular play, a fumble that he picked up and ran 66 yards the wrong way into his own end zone, where he threw the ball away in celebration resulting in a safety.

Although this is his only Browns card, the TCDB lists two different Ohio State cards of his. As a Browns draft pick, I consider his college cards to be possible additions to my collection. I guess I have another couple of cards that I can chase.

2006 Topps Total #212

This last card is the only card in my collection for both Matt Stewart and Jason Fisk (and one of three that I own of Mason Unck).

Matt Stewart signed with the Browns as a free agent after playing four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. He played two seasons with the Browns in 2005 and 2006, before missing the 2007 season with a torn shoulder muscle and becoming a free agent.

Jason Fisk played twelve seasons in the NFL, with 2005 being his only season with the Browns. Throughout his career, he also played for the Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans, San Diego Chargers, and St. Louis Rams.

Both Matt Stewart and Jason Fisk have football cards with other teams, but their only Browns cards are found in this Topps Total set.

This post was a little odd for me. In my previous 'one card' posts, I have usually recognized most of the players in the post, whether from reading about them, or having watched them play.

In this post, however, other than Jim Marshall, I don't remember any of the other players in this post. I mean, I remember picking these cards up, but other than seeing these players on these cards, I really don't know them. I don't like that.

I know there are a lot of players that have played for the Browns over the years that I am not really aware of. I am happy that this series of posts is allowing me to learn a little about some of them.

Bump and Run Football Card Blog Super Bowl Group Break

I signed up for a Super Bowl Group Break that was being run by Trevor at the Bump and Run Football Card Blog.

The break would open two 2017 Donruss Optic Jumbo Pack boxes, and one 2018 hobby box of Panini Elite. Some loose football packs were also going to be opened and thrown in.

Participants could buy one team, and then a second random team would be assigned to them. As one might expect, I bought the Browns. I had the Cowboys assigned to me as my second team.

Here is what I received in my break:

From the Optic cards, these are the two that I needed. I am always happy to get cards that I need, but I must say that I was more pleased to see the Myles Garrett rookie card pulled. It was one of the cards that I was hoping to get out of the break.

Multiple copies of each of these cards were pulled, and all three were already in my collection before the break. No matter, I don't mind adding to the Browns doubles box (which is actually way more than one box).

There is a lot of speculation that Jamie Collins will be let go this off-season. If that happens, that means that of the above players, only Myles Garrett would be still with the team next season.

From the 2018 Panini Elite box, these are the cards that I needed. Garrett and Landry were very important members of the team this year, and should be instrumental in helping the Browns continue their improvement in the future.

I already owned a copy of the Tyrod Taylor card, but with it added to the previous three cards, the Elite box had all the Browns base cards. Sadly, I didn't get any of the five rookie cards from the set.

The Mohamed Massaquoi card was from one of the loose packs.

Along with these Browns cards, Trevor also threw in a bunch of other Browns cards and has said that he hoped that I needed some of them. I did, and here are the ones that I needed.

There are eight Browns in the Power Players insert set. I only had one of them (Johnny Manziel) before receiving these, so they are very appreciated.

Three parallels that I needed.

I have a feeling that us collectors will be chasing parallels all the rest of our collecting days. I guess we can only hope that other collectors will help us find them. I know that it seems rare that I actually pull Browns parallels that I'm collecting, so others have to be pulling them.

These two Kevin Johnson cards show him in his Syracuse Orange uniform. I know I have received other Orange cards in packages where people have confused them with Browns cards. It is an easy mistake to make, but these ones fit in my collection.

I am so glad that Score doesn't seem to be making glossy parallels anymore, not that you would really be able to tell from this scan whether this was the regular version or glossy one.

The hobby version of the Absolute cards has a foil-like background on it.

Trent Richardson is still playing football, and seems to be one of the more well-known names playing in the AAF.

I don't listen to any podcasts, but at some point I'm going to have to listen to the ThomaHawk Show that Andrew Hawkins hosts with Joe Thomas. I always seem to be reading about comments made on the show.

I have very mixed feelings about the Browns signing Kareem Hunt. I just hope that it doesn't mean the end of Duke Johnson's tenure with the team. I think, however, that with his pass catching he serves a different role than either Hunt or Nick Chubb will have with the team.

Gary Barnidge had two good seasons with the Browns and made one of my favorite catches ever.

I watched this game in a bar in New York City and that I blogged about previously. Looking back at the post, I even linked this video back then. I'm not going to apologize, it is worth seeing multiple times.

Gary Barnidge was released by the Browns after they drafted David Njoku in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. I don't know why Gary Barnidge was never given a chance by another team after his release. There are many teams that I think he could have helped.

Thanks, Trevor, for including all these extra Browns cards in the shipment that you sent me.

I did mention that I was also given the Cowboys in the box break. I'll finish my post by showing those cards here, without comment, as well as a some Raiders card doubles from the break that I asked Trevor for to give to one of my friends.

Recent trade and eBay acquisitions

I recently made a trade with a member on The Trading Card Database, and bought a few eBay auctions from another member that had advertised them in the TCDB forums.

Always happy to add some more Tim Couch cards to my collection. He's the only player with more than 500 different cards in my collection. Sadly, that isn't even a third of the cards that are listed on at the TCDB.

I love how random the serial number seems to be for the Banner Season card. Obviously the 2447 is shown on the front as being his total passing yards, but still.

Currently, I have 34 players with over 100 different cards in my collection. These two bring Travis Prentice to 97.

The Future Legends card image is slightly embossed. It's neat to see him almost breaking out of the card.

2000 Pacific Omega #169 (#/500)

Dennis Northcutt was drafted from the Arizona Wildcats, and is shown in his college uniform with any of the licensed parts stripped away. It sure makes it look pretty generic.

The trade went well, and I hope to complete more trades with "cjjt" in the future.

As for the cards that I won on eBay, they were from TCDB member "SaintOrm", with his eBay handle "pazzocow".

I have bought from him before, and actually picked up my first purchase from him in person in Phoenix during one trip to visit my mother. He's a great guy, and great seller. He currently has a bunch of basketball and football cards listed.

2011 SP Authentic #219 (#/699)

One of these days I will count to see how many different Greg Little autographs that I own. I think it is a lot. They're cheap and it doesn't seem like too many people are chasing them.

This is a pretty cool on-card autograph, with a nice three color swatch.

2011 Upper Deck College Football Legends - Autographs #61

Eric Metcalf was one of my favorite Browns from the early 1990s. This is my first Eric Metcalf autograph, so I'm thrilled with adding it to my collection. I'm glad that it is on-card.

Looking at my collection numbers, Metcalf is the highest ranked player from before the move to Baltimore at 195 cards. Overall, he ranks number five in my collection.

2017 Panini Absolute - Rookie Reflex Red #RR-MD

Just for comparison sake, this is my fifth Matthew Dayes autograph, out of fourteen of his cards that I own. I'm not complaining about that but it just helps show how many autographs are out there for modern players.

Both of these autographed cards were needed for my collection, but which do you think means more to me?

Another week has passed without me working on the other post that I started.

I haven't picked up any new cards to show, even though I have a couple waiting for me at my PO Box. The weather, or the threat of the weather, has kept me from making the hour-long drive to get them. I hope to go on Saturday.

To post something, I'll fall back on my continuing series of posts showing the cards I own of players that only have one card in my collection. The images for these cards are taken from The Trading Card Database, using their sorting tools to look through my collection listed on their site to see who only has one card, and then finding the first five names that I haven't posted yet.

Here are the players that I came across today.

1960 Topps #27

Billy Howton had a distinguished twelve year NFL career that left him as the league's all-time leader in receptions and receiving yardage when he retired.

He began his career as a second round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in the 1952 NFL Draft. He played seven seasons with the Packers before being traded to the Cleveland Browns for the 1959 season.

After the season, Howton informed the Browns that he planned on retiring, but the expansion Dallas Cowboys talked him into continuing his career, and traded a draft pick to the Browns to acquire him.

He played three seasons for the Cowboys before retiring after the 1963 season.

This is his only mainstream card with the Browns. He also had a Carling Black Label Beer photo card with the team.

2005 Topps Total #348

Michael Lehan was drafted by the Browns in the fifth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played in 32 games with the Browns, starting four of them, in three seasons with the Browns.

After his time with the Browns, he spent another three seasons in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints.

His only cards were in Topps Total sets. This one, along with parallels of it, were his only cards with the Browns. He also had a card, and parallels, with the Dolphins in the 2007 Topps Total set.

As for the other players on this card, I currently own two cards for Michael Jameson, and four cards for Chris Crocker.

2011 Panini Plates & Patches #191 (#/199)

I'm a little surprised that this is my only card of Buster Skrine, a fifth round draft pick of the Browns in the 2011 NFL Draft.

He seemed to battle constantly for his position on the team and won spots as a starting cornerback for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

After his four seasons with the Browns, Skrine signed a four year contract with the New York Jets as a free agent. I believe that this deal has finished and that he is again a free agent.

His only football cards came during his rookie season, with cards in this Plates & Patches set, and in the Playoff Contenders and Playoff National Treasures sets.

2007 Topps Total #288

This card represents the only card in my Browns collection for two of these players - Robaire Smith and Ted Washington. (I have seven cards of Orpheus Roye.)

Robaire Smith played eleven seasons in the NFL, seven seasons with the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans, before finishing his career with four seasons with the Browns from 2007-10.

Ted Washington played for seven teams in his seventeen year NFL career, playing his last two seasons as a member of the Browns. He was a very large body in the middle of any defensive line that he played on, and was a very good run stopper. I was very happy when the Browns signed him, even knowing that he was wrapping up his career.

There are parallels to this card that I don't own, and this Topps Total set is the only one that shows both veteran defensive linemen as members of the Cleveland Browns.

I've been stuck trying to prepare another post, and have gone through the fun of switching my home cable and internet since my last post so I figure I'll just post the latest in this series.

This post will show cards of five players with only one card in my collection, and use images from The Trading Card Database. I'm using their sorting tools to look through my collection listed on their site to see who only has one card, and then finding the first five names that I haven't posted yet.

Here we go!

1999 Giant Eagle Cleveland Browns #9

It's a shame that I only have one card of Zeus in my collection considering that he is one of two players to play for the Browns before the move to Baltimore, and with the expansion Browns. (Antonio Langham is the other.)

Orlando Brown was signed by the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 1993, and played in 14 games with the Browns in 1994, starting 8 of them, and then started all 16 games in 1995. Over the next three seasons with Baltimore, he started all 45 games that he played, before once again signing with the Cleveland Browns as an unrestricted free agent.

I was very happy when Brown re-signed with the expansion team. It was great to see a young (28 years old), solid veteran signed to play on the offensive line. Brown then started 15 games for the team, suffering a freak injury in that final start.

At the time, the NFL's referees used penalty flags weighted with ball bearings that they would throw at/near an infraction. Jeff Triplette threw such a flag that went through Orlando Brown's facemask and hit his right eye, temporarily blinding him.

Orlando Brown wound up missing three football seasons before re-signing with Baltimore, where he started 35 of the 39 games that he played between 2003 - 2005.

Brown died in September 2011, at the age of 40, of diabetic ketoacidosis.

His son, Orlando Brown Jr., was a third round draft pick last year of the Baltimore Ravens, becoming a starter for the team in week 7. I have to say that I was kind of hoping that the Browns would draft him.

This card, along with a gold parallel, is from the only set that shows Orlando Brown as a member of the Cleveland Browns.

1999 Giant Eagle Cleveland Browns #7

Have I mentioned that I love team sets like this one that offer me players that would not otherwise have Browns cards?

Marlon Forbes was taken by the Browns from the Chicago Bears during the expansion draft. He was mostly a special teams player but did start one game at safety for the Browns during the 1999 expansion season. That was his only year with the Browns.

This card, along with a gold parallel that I don't have, are the only cards that were made for Marlon Forbes' career.

1991 Pacific #87

This is John Talley's only football card. His first season with the Browns is shown on the back, and he played in three games for the Browns in 1991, adding one more reception and thirteen yards to his career totals.

1987 Topps #83

Herman Fontenot played four seasons with the Browns, and the 1986 season shown above statistically was his best with the team.

Notice the back of his card shows his receiving record, as opposed to his rushing record, which you would expect for a running back. Yardage-wise, his best season with the Browns was for 106 yards in 1986.

Over his four seasons with the Browns, Fontenot also returned 50 kickoffs.

Herman Fontenot finished his career playing for the Green Bay Packers in 1989 and 1990.

This is Herman Fontenot's only Cleveland Browns card. He also had cards with the Packers in 1990.

1982 Topps #64

This turned out to be Don Goode's sunset card. The Browns traded Goode to the Raiders in April 1982, and he was waived by the Raiders before the season began.

This is Goode's only Browns card, to go along with cards with the Chargers from 1977 to 1979.
