Giveaway from A Penny Sleeve for your Thoughts

Over the last while, Jon at A Penny Sleeve for your Thoughts did a very generous card giveaway.

I claimed one oddball Browns card from him, and it just arrived in the mail along with a friend.

This card is from the 1976 Wonder Bread set of 24 cards. Jerry Sherk is the only Browns player in the set.

I did already have a copy of this card, but this one is a definite upgrade over the one that I already had.

Jerry Sherk was the starting right defensive tackle for the Browns from 1970 - 1979, and also played one game with the Browns in 1980, and ten games in 1981. He made four straight Pro Bowls from 1973 - 1976, and was a First-Team AP All-Pro in 1976.

I love oddball cards like this, and appreciate when when cards in the set go to players that don't play in the skilled offensive positions.

The Jerry Sherk card also came with a friend, a parallel post-career card of Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome.

This card is a Timeless Tributes Gold card from the 2018 Panini Classics set. It is numbered out of 99.

I am very happy to add this card to my Browns collection.

Ozzie Newsome was a first round draft pick for the Browns in 1978, and he played with the team through the 1990 season, meaning his time with the team overlapped with the last four years of Jerry Sherk's career.

Jon, thank you for the cards, and for your generosity towards the card collecting community!

  1. That Wonder Bread set is really cool... but sometimes I wonder if they made more of those cards than the Topps flagship set of the same year. I've stumbled across a bunch of complete sets over the years and even have some sitting in boxes somewhere.

  2. As extensive as your Browns collection seems to be, I would've never thought to see if you needed a lowly Wonder Bread. Of course, I didn't factor in the possibility of upgrades, so I'll try to keep that in mind in the future.
