I don't have many friends to talk baseball with in person. Most of the baseball fans I know here follow and cheer for the Blue Jays, and used to follow or cheer for the Expos, but if I want to talk about the Mets, or other teams around the league, there is only one friend that I can count on to know what I want to talk about. He is retired, a life-long baseball fan, and used to be a card collector so he also gives me someone to excitedly tell about recent additions to my Browns collection.
Sometime before Christmas, while talking cards, he mentioned one card that he wished he had from when he was a kid. He didn't remember the year but it was easy to find with his description of who was on it. I decided to try and find a copy for him.
1953 Bowman Color #93 - Billy Martin and Phil Rizzuto |
I can't wait to give him the card. I should see him next tomorrow night at trivia, and will probably give it to him then. I'm not sure when his birthday is, but I figure I'll just call it an early/late birthday gift. I know that he'll enjoy it.
Oh man! That is a great card. I'm sure your friend will be thrilled.
ReplyDeleteI know I sure wouldn't complain getting that beauty as a gift - he'll definitely be pleased.
ReplyDeleteA lucky friend indeed! This is a very thoughtful gift on your part, he will probably be absolutely floored after receiving this card.
ReplyDeleteCan I be your friend? And then we can talk about Mickey Mantle and how great his rookie card is?
ReplyDeleteIn graded 7 condition. :)
What a great card and a great story!
ReplyDeleteAwesome card! Your friend is lucky to have a friend like you.
